Legionella
2.2. Legionella are gram-negative rods with a diameter of 0.5 - 0.7 micrometers and a length of 2 - 5 micrometers. In some cases, filamentous forms up to 20 - 25 micrometers in length may be observed. They do not form endospores, microcapsules or capsules, grow under aerobic conditions, and are motile due to one, two, or more flagella. The microorganisms do not ferment carbohydrates, liquefy gelatin, do not produce urease, do not reduce nitrates, and do not grow on standard nutrient media, which is related to the pathogen's requirement for L-cysteine and soluble iron pyrophosphate (Fe++)
