A raised area of land that becomes dry at low tide

An intertidal elevation refers to a naturally formed area of land surrounded by water and situated above the water level at low tide, but covered by water at high tide. If such an intertidal elevation is entirely or partially located from the mainland or island at a distance not exceeding the width of the territorial sea, the line of maximum low tide of that intertidal elevation can be used as the baseline for measuring the territorial sea
