Phosphorus compounds
1. Phosphinic acid (hypophosphorous acid) (H3PO2). Flaky crystals with a melting point of about 25 degrees C, oxidizing in air; a strong reducing agent.
2. Phosphonic acid (phosphorous acid) (H3PO3). Melted crystals with a melting point of about 71 degrees C, soluble in water. Its anhydride (P2O3 or P4O6) also exists as crystals which melt at a temperature of about 24 degrees C and on exposure to light first turn yellow, then red and gradually decompose.
