Relative measurement error
Measurement error expressed as the ratio of absolute measurement error to the value of the measured quantity.
Notes:
1. It is common practice to express relative error in percentages.
2. The concept of "relative error" applies to measurements of quantities on ratio scales and absolute scales, as well as to intervals of quantities described by difference (interval) scales. However, this concept is not applicable to the quantities themselves described by difference scales. For example, it is meaningless (impossible) to express the measurement error of temperature on the Celsius scale or the dating error of an event in percentages.
