Cercarioses
Cercariases (cercarial or schistosomatid dermatitis; folk names: "swimmer's itch", "bather's rash", "water rash", "water nettle") - parasitic diseases caused by larvae (cercariae) of various species of trematodes from the family Schistosomatidae. In their adult stage, they parasitize in the circulatory system of the posterior parts of the intestines of waterfowl (ducks, gulls). Humans play a non-specific (abortive) host role; however, schistosomatid cercariae are capable of penetrating through human skin, causing mechanical (often multiple) skin lesions, exerting toxic and sensitizing effects via metabolic and degradation products, facilitating the entry of secondary infection
