Causative agents of chlamydiosis
2.3 The causative agents of chlamydia are small gram-negative cocci-like bacteria, with sizes ranging from 0.25 to 1.5 micrometers. The causative agents of ornithosis, like all members of this family, are obligate intracellular bacteria. They reproduce by binary fission and contain two types of nucleic acids (RNA and DNA), ribosomes, and muramic acid. The causative agents of ornithosis have two morphological structures: elementary bodies and reticular bodies, adapted to conditions both inside and outside the cell. The combination of two stages - intracellular development and extracellular existence constitutes their life cycle. It occurs in the cytoplasmic vacuole within the eukaryotic host cell and consists of a regular alternation between vegetative non-infectious particles - reticular bodies (RB) measuring 0.8 to 1.5 micrometers, and infectious, dense, round, spore-like elementary bodies (EB) measuring 0.25 to 0.4 micrometers1
