Defense attorney in a criminal case
1. A defender is a person who, in accordance with the procedure established by this Code, protects the rights and interests of suspects and accused persons and provides them with legal assistance during the proceedings in criminal cases.
2. Lawyers may be admitted as defenders. At the court's order or decision, one of the close relatives of the accused or another person, whose admission is requested by the accused, may be admitted as a defender together with a lawyer. In proceedings before a magistrate judge, the aforementioned person may be admitted instead of a lawyer.
