Quinine
1. Quinine is contained in the bark of various plants of the genus Cinchona, in particular, Cinchona officinalis, Cinchona calisaya and Cinchona succirubra. A white crystalline powder. Quinine and its salts paralyze the protoplasm of protozoa present in the blood, therefore they are used as antipyretics (fever-reducing agents) and antimalarial drugs.
