Epidemic mumps


2.4. Mumps is an acute infectious disease characterized by general intoxication (weakness, malaise, fever) and one or more of the following syndromes and symptoms:

- painful swelling (swelling) of one or several salivary glands (unilateral or bilateral); or severe pain in the epigastric area, nausea, repeated vomiting, abdominal muscle tension, signs of peritoneal irritation (pancreatitis),

- in men - strong pain in the scrotum area (usually on one side), radiating to the lower parts of the abdomen, enlargement of the testicle (orchitis);

- in women - tenderness in the iliac region (usually on one side) - oophoritis;

- fever up to 39 degrees C and higher, chills, severe headache, vomiting, rigidity of neck muscles, Kernig's sign and/or Brudzinski's sign - serous meningitis
