Soft Handover

For reference: <*> Soft handover - a procedure ensuring continuous access of a subscriber station (subscriber radio station) to the services of a mobile radio telephone network during its movement from the coverage area of one base station to the coverage area of another base station, provided that both base stations operate on the same radio frequency. During a soft handover, the subscriber station (subscriber radio station) smoothly transitions from the service area of one base station to the service area of another base station; that is, until the moment of switching and for some time after it, the subscriber station (subscriber radio station) simultaneously gains access to the services of the mobile radio telephone network from two stations.
