Campylobacters


2.2. Campylobacters are Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, motile, spiral-shaped microaerophilic bacteria requiring reduced oxygen concentration and increased carbon dioxide content for their growth. They do not grow under strictly aerobic or anaerobic conditions. The genus Campylobacter currently includes more than 27 species, 9 subspecies, and 60 biotypes differing in biochemical properties and antigen structure.
