Flywheels

These are quite large and heavy wheels, usually constructed in such a way that the mass is concentrated near the rim. The inertia of such a wheel when rotating resists any change in the engine's rotational speed and thus maintains the rotational speed at a constant level. Flywheels may, in some cases, have a grooved or toothed rim or be equipped with coupling links, so that in certain situations they can serve for energy transmission (for example, as a driving pulley or gear wheel).
