Spread (straddle)
- "spread" ("straddle") - this is the difference between exchange quotations with different delivery dates (for example, between exchange quotations for raw sugar for delivery in October 2001 and March 2002 from 20 August 2001).
Spreads may be applied when determining contract prices for the supply of physical goods based on exchange quotations with distant delivery dates (for example, based on quotations for an April October contract, i.e., with delivery in October) as a discount to the current exchange quotation for the nearest delivery month if exchange prices with distant delivery dates increase compared to the nearest month or as a premium if exchange prices decrease. In addition, the term "spread" may refer to the simultaneous purchase and sale of futures (options) contracts on the same commodity with different delivery dates (for speculative purposes).
