Expected value


Mathematical expectation is the average value of a random variable. Mathematical expectation is a deterministic quantity. The arithmetic mean of realizations of a random variable represents an estimate of mathematical expectation. The arithmetic mean is a random variable, but as the number of realizations increases, it approaches the mathematical expectation
