Deformable Mirrors
33) deformable mirrors (adaptive mirrors) - mirrors that have:
a) a continuous optical reflective surface, which is deformed by applying appropriate forces or torques to compensate for distortions of the optical signal falling on the mirror; or
b) a plurality of optical reflective elements, the positions of which can be mutually and independently changed by applying forces or torques to compensate for distortions of the optical signal falling on the mirror.
Deformable mirrors are also known as adaptive optics mirrors (category 6);
