55) network access controller - a physical interface of a distributed switching network. It uses a common medium operating at the same digital transmission speed with transmission control (e.g., carrier sensing or detection). Regardless of any other network access controller, it selects data packets or groups of data (e.g., IEEE 802) addressed to it. This is a module that may be embedded in a computer or telecommunications equipment for system access (category 4);
