Absolute scale

Scale of relations (proportional or additive) of a dimensionless quantity.

Notes:

1. Distinctive features of absolute scales: presence of natural (independent of the adopted system) zero units and dimensionless measurement units, admissibility of only identical transformations, implementation both with and without references, admissibility of changing specifications describing specific scales.

2. Measurement results in absolute scales may be expressed not only in dimensionless units, but also in percentages, per mille, decibels, bits.

3. Units of absolute scales may be applied in

in combination with dimensional units of other scales. Example - information recording density in bits/cm.

4. A type of absolute scales are discrete (integer, countable, quantized) scales, in which the measurement result is expressed as a dimensionless number of particles, quanta or other individual objects equivalent in quantitative manifestation of the measured property
