Colloidal sulfur
Colloidal sulfur is obtained by the action of hydrogen sulfide on a solution of sulfur dioxide containing gelatin. In addition, it can be prepared by the action of an inorganic acid on sodium thiosulfate or by the method of cathode pulverization. Colloidal sulfur is a white powder that forms an emulsion in water; in this state it is stable only when a protective colloid (albumin or gelatin) is added, but even under these conditions the emulsion remains stable for only a limited time. This commodity category includes colloidal solutions prepared in this manner. Like all colloidal dispersions, sulfur dispersions have a large adsorbing surface area and can take up coloring substances; they are also very active antiseptics taken internally for therapeutic purposes
