Coliphages
Coliphages are bacterial viruses capable of lysing Escherichia coli and forming lysis zones (plaques) within 18 +/- 2 hours at a temperature of 37 +/- 1 `C on its lawn on nutrient agar. They have been introduced as indicators of more environmentally stable viral contamination
