Hi-Fi Cassette Decks

Hi-Fi cassette decks are devices for playing and recording audio signals on media such as audio cassettes (compact cassettes) based on magnetic tape. Cassette decks are divided into single- and dual-cassette models, where each of the two cassettes may be equipped with either a separate tape transport mechanism or a single tape transport drive.

Dual-cassette decks may include the possibility of recording onto one or both cassettes simultaneously from one or several sources. As a rule, cassette decks do not have an integrated audio signal amplifier; therefore, connection to an external amplifier or receiver is required.

An important characteristic of a cassette deck is the presence of an auto-reverse function - automatic switching between sides on a compact cassette without opening the compartment during playback or recording.

Modern cassette decks may employ various noise reduction technologies aimed at improving sound quality and optimizing the signal-to-noise ratio on magnetic tape, both during recording and playback.
