Retort Coal (Gas Coal)
Retort coal (gas coal) is a solid black brittle form of carbon which produces a metallic sound when struck. It is obtained as a by-product at gas plants or in coke ovens, where it deposits on the walls of furnaces or retorts. Retort coal usually consists of irregularly shaped pieces with one surface flat or slightly curved according to the shape of the retort
