Full-text indexing

Full-text indexing refers to the automatic computer processing of document texts, during which all words encountered in the texts are entered into a special dictionary with an indication of the document number where the given word appears. This dictionary is also structured in alphabetical order, but differs from alphabetical indexes precisely by the fact that it automatically includes all words from the texts (naturally excluding conjunctions, interjections, etc.), rather than specially selected individual terms. Accordingly, full-text search for words and phrases is an automatic search based on the use of such a dictionary.
