Ink-colored Nuts


5. Ink nuts: Aleppo galls, Chinese galls, Hungarian galls, pine galls, etc.

Ink nuts are growths on leaves or shoots of various oaks and other trees formed as a result of damage caused by gall-forming insects from the genus Cynips. They contain tannin and gallic acid and are used in the production of dyes and certain types of ink.
