Hysterical state


Hysterical state - included among dissociative disorders (F44 ICD-10): pronounced emotional lability with exaggerated expression of emotions, rapid alternation of sympathy and antipathy. Patients' facial expressions, gestures and overall behavior are artificial, theatrical, affected. The content of speech is figurative, reported facts are exaggerated, sometimes desired events are presented as actual ones, described with heightened affectation. Patients are suggestible and even more self-suggestible. "Classical" hysterical attack is now rare, limited to loud convulsive crying, occasionally screaming, raising hands to the heavens, trembling of the entire body, staggering on the legs with convulsive attempts to remain standing

falls, sometimes slow sliding to the floor. Along with such psychological characteristics, various functional disorders are observed in nature but extremely diverse in manifestations: paralyses, pareses, pain, blindness, deafness, muteness, etc.
