Non-linear editing
Nonlinear editing is editing performed on disk-based video recording devices using a controller, whose memory stores the sequence of addresses of program fragments. In nonlinear editing, physical rewriting of fragments from one area of the disk to another does not occur, only the order of their playback is changed
