Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities

Rehabilitation of persons with disabilities is a system and process of full or partial restoration of the abilities of persons with disabilities to perform domestic, public, and professional activities. The rehabilitation of persons with disabilities aims at eliminating or providing as complete compensation as possible for limitations in life activities caused by health impairments resulting in a persistent disorder of body functions, in order to achieve social adaptation of persons with disabilities, their material independence, and integration into society.

23. The term "rehabilitation" means a process aimed at helping persons with disabilities achieve an optimal level of physical, intellectual, psychological and/or social activity and to maintain it, thereby providing them with the means to change their lives and expand their independence. Rehabilitation may include measures for ensuring and/or restoring functions or compensating for the loss or absence of functions or functional limitations. The rehabilitation process does not imply merely providing medical care. It includes a wide range of measures and activities, ranging from initial and more general rehabilitation to targeted activities, such as restoring professional capacity.
