Liquid Crystal (LCD) Panels/Matrices (TFT Panels)
In this type of televisions, the effect of voltage-controlled polarization of liquid crystals is used. The liquid crystal screen is a completely flat matrix consisting of two plastic or glass plates between which there is a suspension. Crystals in this suspension change their spatial orientation and modulate the intensity of the light beam when an electric signal is applied, resulting in the appearance of an image on the screen. The matrix is enclosed in a plastic casing up to 10 cm thick. Liquid crystal televisions are distinguished primarily by high image and sound quality, a very wide range and variety of screen sizes (14" (36 cm), 15" (38 cm), 17", 18", 20", 22", 26", 29", 30", 32", 37" and 40" (100 cm) diagonally), a wide viewing angle (up to 170 degrees), compactness, a large number of standard features, the possibility of using them also as computer monitors, a variety of installation options (floor-standing, wall-mounted, desktop, and ceiling-mounted), and low weight (from 3 to 25 kg). The approximate cost of liquid crystal televisions with a diagonal size of 15" (38 cm) is between 200 - 250 US dollars.
