Nitro Lacquers
Nitro varnishes are obtained by dissolving cellulose nitrate (lacquer colloxylin) in a mixture of active organic solvents. To achieve targeted regulation of the properties of the varnishes, various resins (alkyd, aminoformaldehyde, etc.) are added to the composition. Nitro varnishes form hard, transparent, practically colorless, fast-drying films. Most often, nitro varnishes are used for lacquering wood products. In some cases, they are used for lacquering metal products, applied as the final layer in a multi-layer paint and varnish composition. Products coated with nitro varnishes are primarily used for indoor applications, although coatings capable of withstanding atmospheric conditions can also be obtained.
