Sodium
A solid substance (specific gravity 0.97) with a metallic luster, quickly losing its luster after cutting. It is stored in mineral oil or in hermetically sealed tin containers.
Sodium is produced by electrolysis of molten sodium chloride or sodium hydroxide.
Sodium is used in the production of sodium peroxide ("dioxide"), sodium cyanide, sodium amide and others, in indigo production, in the manufacture of explosives (chemical initiating explosives), in butadiene polymerization, is used in antifriction alloys and in titanium or zirconium metallurgy
