Zinc oxide

Zinc oxide (zinc white, zinc brilliancy) (ZnO) is obtained by passing a stream of air over heated red-hot zinc; instead of zinc, a mixture of oxidized zinc ores (roasted sphalerite, calamine - commodity position 2608) and carbon may be used. Penetrating into the voids of the material, gases form areas of highly pure oxides, among which zinc brilliancy is the purest one. Zinc oxide is a white layered powder that turns yellow when heated.

Zinc oxide is used as a component of paints instead of lead white, in the production of cosmetics, matches, linoleum or ceramic glazes, as a sound absorber, vulcanization accelerator for rubbers, catalyst, in glass manufacturing, in the manufacture of gas masks or in medicine for treating skin diseases.
