Optical fibers
Optical fibers (subposition 9001 10 900 1 of the Russian Customs Tariff) are optical dielectric waveguides intended for information transmission. An optical fiber is a glass thread with a diameter of 0.125 mm, protected by a plastic coating with a diameter of 0.245 - 0.250 mm.
Optical fiber may appear visually transparent or colored in various colors for subsequent identification within the cable. Visually, optical fiber resembles fishing line; however, unlike fishing line, it breaks when bent on a small radius (e.g., in the form of a loop). The unit of measurement for optical fiber is kilometer. The weight of one kilometer of optical fiber is approximately 75 grams ±15–20% depending on the manufacturer and type of fiber.
All optical fibers are divided into two main groups based on the way radiation propagates through them: single mode (English name - single mode fiber, used abbreviation - SMF) and multi mode (English name - multi mode fiber, used abbreviation - MMF)
