Compression of the thoracic cage


Thoracic compression is a pathological condition arising due to a reduction in lung gas volume below residual volume and the suction effect of the thoracic cavity under hydrostatic pressure, which more frequently occurs during diving at depth without use of a breathing apparatus and is characterized by overfilling with blood of vessels of the pulmonary circulation
