Public official
"Public official" means: i) any person appointed or elected to hold any position in the legislative, executive, administrative, or judicial organs of a participating state on a permanent or temporary basis, with or without remuneration, regardless of the level of that person's position; ii) any other person performing any public function, including for a public authority or public enterprise, or providing any public service, as defined in the internal legislation of the participating state and as applied in the relevant area of legal regulation of that participating state; iii) any other person designated as a "public official" in the internal legislation of the participating state. Nevertheless, for the purposes of taking certain specific measures provided in Chapter I of this Convention, "public official" may mean any person performing any public function or providing any public service, as defined by the internal legislation of the participating State and as applied in the relevant area of legal regulation of that participating State.
