Formaldehyde
Formaldehyde (formic aldehyde, methanal) is a colorless gas with a sharp irritating odor. Boiling point: -19.2 `C, density: 0.8153 g/cu. cm. It is well soluble in water, alcohols and other polar solvents. At low temperatures it mixes with non-polar solvents (toluene, diethyl ether, ethyl acetate) [paragraph 5 of the Appendix to this MUH]. It has irritating, sensitizing and dermal-absorbing effects, exerts a hepatotropic effect, belongs to substances causing carcinogenic risk
