Electric Transformers

Electric transformers are devices that, without any moving parts, convert alternating current with one set of parameters into alternating current with different parameters (different voltage, different impedance, etc.) by means of induction and using a rigidly tuned or adjustable system. Transformers usually consist of one or two coils of insulated wire wound around laminated iron cores, although in some cases (for example, in radio frequency transformers) there may be no magnetic core or the core may be made from agglomerated powdered iron, ferrite, etc. The alternating current in one coil (the primary circuit) induces an alternating current of usually different strength and voltage in other coils (the secondary circuit). In some cases (autotransformers), there is only one coil, with part of its winding being common to both the primary and secondary circuits. In shell-type transformers, a casing made of laminated steel surrounds the transformer.
