Trail of the radioactive cloud from a nuclear explosion
The radioactive cloud trail of a nuclear explosion - the zone of local (as opposed to global) fallout (within the scope of this document) - is an area of radioactive contamination formed by radioactive particles that have settled on the ground from the cloud of a nuclear explosion. The "zone of near local radioactive fallout," created by relatively large radioactive particles and extending from the center (epicenter) of the nuclear explosion to the distance at which falling radioactive particles have a maximum aerodynamic diameter of 50 micrometers. This zone is conditionally referred to as the "near local radioactive trail" in the Methodological Guidelines. The "zone of distant local radioactive fallout" is formed by highly dispersed particles with an aerodynamic diameter less than 50 micrometers. This zone is located beyond the "zone of near local fallout," directly adjacent to it. Under certain conditions, this zone may also appear independently. In the Methodological Guidelines, this zone is referred to as the "distant local radioactive trail."
