Conditioned Atmosphere


Conditioning atmosphere: the atmosphere in which a sample or reference specimen is stored prior to testing.

Notes

1. The atmosphere is characterized by established values of one or more parameters: temperature, relative humidity of air, pressure, maintained within tolerances for a specified period of time.

2. Conditioning refers to the operation carried out in order to impart specific temperature and humidity values to a sample or reference specimen prior to testing, by placing it for a specified period of time in a conditioning atmosphere.

3. Conditioning is performed either in a laboratory room, or in a special cabinet (conditioning chamber), or in a test chamber.

4. The selected values and period of time depend on the type of sample or specimen being tested
