Sinking Well

Sinking shaft: a hollow cylindrical shell (usually circular in plan), driven into the ground. Sinking shafts are mainly used for constructing deep foundations transferring pressure onto lower, stronger soil layers and for building underground rooms. Reinforced concrete (prefabricated and monolithic) is predominantly used as material for sinking shafts. The walls of sinking shafts are made vertical, smooth or stepped with an inward slope at the bottom, facilitating their penetration into the ground.
