Special libraries


Special libraries: libraries under the jurisdiction of an association, government agency, parliament, research institution (excluding those belonging to universities), scientific society, professional association, museum, commercial or industrial enterprise, chamber of commerce and other bodies, where the majority of their collections relate to a particular discipline or field, for example: natural sciences, social sciences, agriculture, chemistry, medicine, economic sciences, engineering sciences, law, history. It is necessary to distinguish between:

i) libraries that provide documents and services to any person who approaches them;

ii) libraries whose collections and services are primarily intended to meet the information needs of their main user group, even if in some cases they are used by specialists not belonging to the organization under which the library is administered
