Serious aviation incident
1.2.2.23. Serious aviation incident - an aviation incident, the circumstances of which indicate that an aviation accident has almost occurred.
The following characteristics are typical for serious aviation incidents:
- aircraft departure from expected operating conditions;
- occurrence of significant harmful effects on the crew or passengers (smoke, vapors of caustic substances, toxic gases, elevated or reduced temperature, pressure and so on);
- a significant decrease in the performance capability of flight crew members;
- a significant increase in psychophysiological load on the crew;
- serious bodily injuries to any person aboard the aircraft;
- a significant deterioration in stability and controllability, flight or structural characteristics;
- occurrence of a real possibility of damage to vital elements of the aircraft as a result of explosion, fire, uncontained engine or transmission failure and so on;
- destruction or disconnection of control elements;
- damage to aircraft components not related to an aviation incident
