Plant sterols (phytosterols)

Plant sterols (phytosterols) are present in various types of plant-based human food and in seafood. They are an essential component of plant oils. They significantly reduce the level of free cholesterol in low-density lipoproteins, and are capable of displacing cholesterol from membrane structures. The consumption of phytosterols is 150 - 450 mg per day.

The recommended intake level of plant sterols (phytosterols) for adults is 300 mg per day (introduced for the first time)
