Video Squares
Video quad splitters are digital devices that allow images from four video sources to be displayed on a single screen, which is divided into four parts (quadrants) in this case, and enable reducing the number of monitors in the system. High-resolution quad splitters allow working with eight cameras on one monitor: they form two groups of four cameras each and provide the ability to display them sequentially on the screen. Video quad splitters are distinguished as "real-time" ones, which ensure simultaneous switching of images in all four quadrants, and sequential type quad splitters, which provide a switching rate in each quadrant at a frequency four times lower than the nominal field frequency. Most quad splitters can operate as sequential action switchers, i.e., connect any of the operating cameras to the monitor. Quad splitters for CCTV should have additional (equal to the number of cameras) alarm inputs for connecting signaling devices and ensure displaying the camera on full screen when signaling devices trigger in its surveillance zone, freeze frame mode, i.e. the possibility to fix an image in one of the segments, transmitting an alarm signal to other consumers and, if necessary, recording on a video tape recorder. Video quad splitters, like sequential action video switchers, are relatively simple devices and are typically used in small and inexpensive systems
