Selenium


Selenium, quite similar to sulfur, exists in several varieties:

a) amorphous selenium in the form of reddish flakes (selenium color);

b) vitreous selenium, a poor conductor of heat and electricity. It has a brilliant fracture of brown or reddish color;

c) crystalline selenium, in the form of gray or red crystals. Relatively good conductor of heat and electricity, especially in light. Used in the production of photovoltaic cells and in alloying with other elements - in the manufacture of semiconductor devices, in photography, in powder form (red selenium) is used for producing rubber, special lenses and others
