Mortality


Mortality is the process of decreasing population size due to the death of individual organisms. Mortality as an indicator is the frequency of deaths in a population over a certain defined period of time and may be expressed as the number of deaths per 1000 people of the population. Age-specific mortality quantitatively reflects age-specific risk of death for members of the population who have reached a certain age. The probability of death of an individual within a given age interval, related to the duration of this interval, is called mortality intensity (force of mortality, specific death rate)
