Phthalic acid


o-Phthalic acid (o-benzenedicarboxylic acid) - white crystalline flakes. Melting point 200 C, upon melting decomposes into phthalic anhydride. Solubility in 100 g of solvent: water - 0.57 g (20.0 C), methyl alcohol - 25.6 g (21.4 C), ethyl alcohol - 13.8 g (21.4 C), diethyl ether - 0.68 (15 C), acetone - 2.89 (28 C) [point 1 of the Appendix to these MUK]. Phthalic acid is a metabolite of phthalic anhydride, causes irritation on the skin, leads to a decrease in the number of platelets and increases bilirubin levels in blood, affects the liver, kidneys, stomach and intestines
