Medical Laboratory
Medical laboratory (clinical laboratory): a laboratory that performs biological, microbiological, immunological, chemical, immunohematological, hematological, biophysical, cytological, pathological or other examinations of materials from the human body to obtain information for diagnosis, prevention and treatment of disease or assessment of human health status and which may provide advisory assistance regarding all aspects of laboratory testing, including interpretation of results and recommendation of further necessary investigations.
Note - These tests also include procedures for determining, measuring or otherwise describing the presence or absence of various substances or microorganisms. Departments that only collect and prepare samples or act as shipping or distribution centers cannot be considered medical or clinical laboratories, although they may be part of large laboratory networks or systems.
