Intrauterine infection

Intrauterine infection (hereinafter - IUI) is any clinically manifest infectious disease of microbial origin in the fetus resulting from its infection during the antenatal or intranatal periods. In the vast majority of cases, the fetus is infected by the mother; in some cases (invasive interventions during pregnancy, fetal surgery), iatrogenic infection of the fetus is possible. IUI also includes congenital infections, where the infection of the fetus occurred antenatally and clinical signs of infection are present at birth
