Shear surface of rock masses
40. Sliding surface - a surface within the rock mass of a mine slope (bench slope or dump), representing the geometric locus of points of maximum relative displacement of rocks and separating the displaced part from the main stationary part of the rock mass. In most cases, the sliding surface is associated with the presence in the rock mass of strength anisotropy surfaces of rocks (weak contacts between heterogeneous rocks, fractures, tectonic zones and disturbances, relatively low-strength layers and interlayers). When assessing slope stability through calculation, a calculated surface is identified, along which shear forces are compared and retaining forces
