The term "rare gases" (inert gases) refers to elements listed below. They are distinguished by their chemical inertness and electrical properties, in particular, their ability to emit colored light (used, for example, in neon advertising) under the influence of high-voltage discharges.
1. Helium (non-flammable gas used, for example, for inflating balloons).
2. Neon (emits pink-orange-yellow light or ("daylight" light when combined with mercury vapor)).
3. Argon (colorless, odorless gas used to create an inert atmosphere in electric lamp bulbs).
4. Krypton (used similarly to argon, or for producing pale violet light).
5. Xenon (emits blue light).
Noble gases are obtained by fractional distillation of liquid air, as well as (in the case of helium) from some natural gases. They are stored under pressure.
Radon is a radioactive noble gas of commodity code 2844 and is formed as a result of the radioactive decay of radium
