Selective sanitary inspections
46. Selective sanitary thinning is carried out with the aim of improving forest stands, preventing the spread and (or) eliminating foci of trunk pests and dangerous infectious diseases. They are conducted in forest stands with an increased current tree mortality rate compared to natural levels, as well as in areas with windthrow, blowdown, snowthrow, snowdrift, trees affected by diseases, and trees infested by trunk pests. The level of natural current tree mortality is determined according to growth tables adopted for forestry activities within the region.
